These qualifications have enabled me to plan lessons using visual aids. I developed my own graphic media to illustrate key elements in driving. This is a unique programme using the power of graphics only available to my pupils. Seeing is believing. Use of images through Powerpoint helps explain various key stages within the driving syllabus.
A picture communicates a thousand words. This process keeps learning simple. The impact of using pictures with my pupils has such an effect that they often say to me “I see what you mean”, and they really do! This use of visual aids in teaching is endorsed by the Driving Instructor’s Handbook in that it states that 75% of what we learn is through our eyes, with only 10% through hearing.
Students experiencing difficulties with either the theory test or hazard perception can be checked out on the computer in the car. Handouts or notes are available on most lessons on a floppy disc when requested, which reinforce key areas. I regularly surf the internet, to keep my students updated on any issues relevant to their driving. My students are kept up to date on driving matters.
Full one hour driving lessons: no passenger to pick up or drop off. Many learner drivers spend time dropping of other students which is beneficial for the driving instructor but wasted time for the pupil. All my students drive to the most appropriate area for the lesson they are learning thereby making use of the full hour. I leave 15 minute gap between lessons. All my students have full 1 hour lessons.
Pick up or drop off anywhere within the Rochdale area is all part of the service. Start your lesson where it is convenient for you. Finish your lesson at school, college or work wherever is convenient so long as you are within the Rochdale area.
DSA Log sheets - details of lessons using DSA assessment criteria (on request).
The DSA have developed assessment record sheets, one for the student and one for the instructor. The assessment log sheets cover all the key areas within the practical driving syllabus. Each stage covers 5 levels of competencies from:
- Introduction of a lesson
- Full Instruction
